Character Analysis

Character: Caroline in Caroline’s wedding

Her age changes through the play from 6-8 years old to 23-25 years old because the dad in the heaven would see their growing up procedure. So I need to show some differences between those age’s changes by changing the appearances and behaviors. 

The main characteristic is she is disabled, and she lost her forearm since she was born (I might mention the reason why she lost this arm, according to the book her mother was given a shot in the prison when she was pregnant.) And I need to get used to having only one arm while I am performing. In order to make it seems realistic, I need to spend sometime practicing it. Because Caroline was born in US, and she has experienced the American culture all the time, so she does not understand the Haitian culture. So she should totally be an American girl (however I think Kat is better than me, and I might think of switch characters later) . 

Because when Caroline’s father died, she was still a really young girl, and she should feel extremely lost. And she should be acted naive by using kid’s tone.  So she must cry a lot during the night, and this is the right time for her father to come back. The main point is I as Caroline should act very weak and poor in order to call father back. 

The book mentions that those two daughters do not wear/ wear certain pants, so that the father could come back to their dreams, so the pajama is an important part of the scene.  (And meaning of it would be told through the conversation between the two sisters)

And the night before my character’s wedding, I should be mature enough and I just want to receive my dad’s wishes and agreement for my marriage. Because her father it is the last time for her dad coming back, and they also need to say goodbye to each other. 

I need to show how my character grows up from naive to mature because this is one of the big points. Also to so the strong relationship between parents and children. And the colliding of different cultures which are also the main points of the whole book.
